When it comes to marketing your virtual assistant business online, it’s important to think about where you’re spending your time on social media.
So, where do you spend your time?
Do you end up scrolling through Pinterest, saving 100 pins or hanging out on Facebook, joining 50 groups?
I’m not saying that spending your time on Pinterest or Facebook is wrong.
However, it can be a major time waster—if you don’t have a plan.
What’s your social media plan?
First, you need to think about what you want to accomplish on social media.
- You want people to sign up for your list and free optin offer.
- You want to get more traffic to your blog.
- You’re looking to interact and network with those in your target market.
Whatever it is for you and your business, have a goal in mind, and let that goal drive your actions.
Where should you be on social media?
Next, you want to think about what social media platforms to spend your time on.
You don’t need to be on every single one out there. I know that this might go against what you’re hearing from others, but you’ll run yourself ragged trying to be active everywhere.
Instead, use these tips to help narrow it down for you:
- What platforms does your ideal client hang out on the most?
- Of those platforms, which do you enjoy using and/or would be willing to learn how to use?
- Then start with just two platforms to avoid overwhelm.
That’s what is really most important here—you want to focus on spending time where your target market hangs out the most. That’s where you want to show up, be present, be helpful and network.
Plan your time
Another way to make sure that social media isn’t a time waster for you is to plan out your time.
Automating social media posts can be really helpful. Use a tool like Buffer to pre-schedule tips, snippets about your free offer and your blog posts. (The above is my referral link.)
Then schedule in some time to be “live” on the platforms. During this time, respond to people’s comments, thank them for sharing your info and share posts from your target market.

Track and analyze results
Track where you spend your time and what results you’re getting. For example, are people signing up for your free optin? Has traffic increased to your blog? Are you making solid relationships with potential clients that result in conversations about working together?
Take some time to check your results and see how your social media marketing plan is working for you. Tweak and adjust as needed.
Remember, you need to give it time to work. Real relationships are not created in one week. Be consistent, have goals and work your plan.
