Hi, I’m Alicia Jay—work at home mom and business & marketing coach to virtual assistants. I’m at an awesome place right now in my life and business, but it wasn’t always sunshine and roses. It’s been quite a journey!
It all started in 2009 when I was laid off from a brick-and-mortar company where I worked as a business manager. The economy was bad and the business closed entirely. To make matters worse, I was seven months pregnant.
Before this happened, I felt “just okay” about my job. I mean, I was good at it but I wasn’t particularly happy. I felt like I could be doing so much more but I had no idea what that might be. However, knowing that I was pregnant, I certainly wasn’t going to leave the security of that job!
That’s when the bombshell of the layoff happened and I had to do something else. I attempted to apply for other management positions but jobs were scarce- and my large, pregnant belly was a red flag to employers. If they hired me, I would be off for maternity leave…very soon!
The situation led to a lot of frustration, anger, crying and sleepless nights. 😥 Then I decided to dust myself off and figure out what I was going to do. I searched online relentlessly and finally came across what would end up being my new career. I stumbled upon the world of virtual assistants!
Over time, I developed my virtual assistant business and narrowed down my specialties. I created a good client base working with great people who also referred me to other great people.
I met colleagues and joint venture partners who helped me take my business to the next level.
This might all sound really great, but it was a tough road. I didn’t have the money to sign up for courses or hire a coach to help me figure it all out. It was just me and my computer (and a very supportive husband). There was a lot of trial and error. I used that time in between when I didn’t have a job to learn and research all that I could. I put countless hours into making my business a success.
And here’s the awesome thing—I was able to pay my bills with the income I made and be home to raise my son, who was born amidst this chaotic time in my life. There were a lot of ups and downs, but I don’t regret one single minute of it.
Then I started receiving emails from other women, just like me, who wanted to know how to create their virtual assistant business. They could relate to my story and they wanted the time freedom that I had. At first, I answered each email, thinking about all the things that I’d wished someone had told me when I started out online.
I’d answer the emails, one by one, until it struck me that I could be helping so many more people by sharing this information with them.
And that’s why I created this site.
I had to go it alone–but you don’t have to.
I’ll give you resources and information that it took me months to find on my own. I’ll tell you what worked (and what didn’t) while setting up my business and marketing to new clients.
At New VA Advice, you’ll find blog posts, videos, ebooks, summits and coaching programs that will help you move past the fear and overwhelm, and create the virtual assistant business of your dreams!
I’m not here to tell you that I now have a six-figure business and make all of my money while I sleep. Not yet, but I’m working on it! 😉
I’m just here to tell you that, if you have the passion and desire to do this for yourself and create a lifestyle in which you schedule your work around your family (not the other way around), then I am here to help you along that journey!
All the best,
